Abstract

"Food" is defined in regulation 2 as any articles used as food or drink including fish products but excluding water. The Belize Agricultural Health Authority is declared to be the competent authority in Belize with responsibility for monitoring, inspecting, approving, and controlling food safety systems in respect of all enterprises that produce or process food for export from Belize or for consumption within Belize (reg. 3). All food enterprises shall be required to register with the Authority and to comply with the HACCP guidelines set out in the Schedules to these Regulations (reg. 4). Regulation 5 outlines consequences of non-compliance with the guidelines by enterprises involved in exportation of food. A consequence may be that, after a grace period, enterprises that do not comply, shall not be granted a food safety certificate or any certificates previously issued shall be revoked (reg. 5). Regulation 6 outlines measures the Authority may take if a food product is found to be a health hazard. The Central Investigation Laboratory is hereby designated as the food-testing laboratory for purposes of these Regulations. The Authority shall issue in respect of fish and fish products to be exported from Belize a sanitary certificate as set out in the Fourth Schedule. (11 regulations completed by 4 Schedules)
