Abstract

The Act consists of 88 sections divided into 13 Parts: Preliminary (I); Establishment of objectives of the Authority (II); Appointment of staff, etc. (III); Administration (IV); Financial provisions, accounts and reports (V); Administration of plant health (VI);Plant Quarantine Measures (VII); Enforcement (VIII); Control of diseased or suspected animals (IX); Importation of animals, animal carcasses, animal products, biologicals, feed and litter (X); Fertilizers and feeding stuffs (XI); General (XII); Miscellaneous (XIII). An Act to establish the Belize Agricultural Health Authority which shall take over and manage the functions exercised until the date of entry into force of the present Act by the Plant Protection and Animal Health Services of the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries. The Act further provides for the prevention and control of plant and animal diseases in Belize. In this framework, quarantine measures are prescribed and importation of plants, animals, animal carcasses, animal products, animal drugs, feed and litter, and use and sale of fertilizers otherwise restricted and regulated.
