Keyword Pollution control Hazards Institution Geographical area Africa, North Atlantic, Western Africa Abstract This Law provides for the establishment of the Bayelsa State Emergency Management Agency and the Governing Council, defines its functions and powers and provides with respect to its administration. It also provides for the establishment of Local Government Emergency Management Agency Committees. The Agency is established as a body corporate and shall be governed by a governing council. The Agency shall, among other things: (a) formulate policy on all activities relating to disaster management and co-ordinate plans and programmes for efficient and effective response to disasters in the State; (b) co-ordinate and promote research activities relating to disaster management in the State; liaise with Local Government Emergency Committees and the National Emergency Management Agency. The Bayelsa State Emergency Management Agency may, with the approval of the Governor, make regulations generally for the purposes of giving full effect to this Law.
