They provide standards in respect of permissible levels of toxic substances in batteries in order for them to be allowed to be placed on the market. They also prescribe enforcement action that may be undertaken by the Secretary of State and authorised officers so as to prevent the placing on the market of batteries and accumulators that do not comply with these Regulations or the Directive.
