Abstract This Act aims to restrict the number of goats in the Jammu and Kashmir State. The Government may declare that in any specified area, referred to as local area, it shall be unlawful to perform the following activities: (a) to graze or pasture goats on any land; and (b) to keep goats. Although, the Government may in any area permit the keeping of goats subject to such conditions as may be prescribed. The Government may take the following measures: regulate the leading, driving, conducting or conveying of goats in any local area; regulate the slaughter of goats including the proportion of the goats to the sheep that may be slaughtered in a slaughter-house in any day; etc. Any person who contravenes the provisions or any rules made under this Act shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend to six months with the goat seizure.
