Abstract These Regulations implement provisions of the Australian Meat and Live-stock Industry Act 1997 and in particular prescribe industry bodies for purposes of section 59 of the Act and provide rules for the calculation of gross value of the production of the Australian meat and livestock industry for purposes of section 66(4) of the Act. Section 59 of the Act imposes on the Minister, in exercising the powers of the Minister under Part 3 of the Act, to have regard to any broad policies formulated jointly by prescribed industry bodies. Section 66 (4) allows the Secretary to determine the amount of the gross value of production of the industry for a financial year for purposes of payments to the Research Body.
