Abstract This Act, divided into nine Parts and consisting of 53 articles, provides for: controlling the movement of animals, animal products and related items into and within St. Christopher and Nevis; preventing the introduction and spread of animal diseases within St. Christopher and Nevis and other countries; ensuring the safe movement of animals. The Act concerns the following relevant terms: animal, including: bovine, canine, feline, equine, goat, monkey, rabbit, sheep, swine, birds, poultry, fish, reptiles, insects, amphibians, eggs of any kind and all other animals of whatever kind, domestic or wild, terrestrial or aquatic; animal carcasses; animal diseases; animal products; bee disease; disinfection; fish diseases; infected area; fodder; veterinary biological product. The Act focuses on the following topics: establishment of Veterinary Authority, and of the Veterinary Advisory Council, definition of their duties and responsibilities, appointment of inspectors; importation and exportation of animals and animal-related items; restriction on importation; offences and penalties concerning animal trade; prohibition on the movement of animals; measures on animal quarantine; slaughtering of diseased animals; disposal of animals; powers of inspectors.
