Abstract These regulations amend the Animal Welfare (Records and Statistics) Regulations 1999 (the principal regulations). These regulations amend regulation 4 of the principal regulations, which requires code of ethical conduct holders to keep readily accessible records in relation to the research, testing, and teaching carried out by them each year. The amendment inserts a new requirement (which is empowered by section 183(1)(c)(iiia) of the Animal Welfare Act 1999) that requires code of ethical conduct holders to keep records of the numbers of animals killed that were bred using any breeding technique, but not used, for the purposes of research, testing, and teaching. New regulation 4(1)(l) will take effect concurrently with changes to provisions of the Animal Welfare Act 1999 that relate to research, testing, and teaching that were enacted by the Animal Welfare Amendment Act (No 2) 2015.
