The objectives of this Act are: a) to ensure that animals are treated humanely; b) to prevent cruelty to animals; and c) to promote community awareness about the welfare of animals. It defines obligations for the management of animals and provides for the adoption of a code of practice. The Act establishes the Animal Welfare Authority and the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee and regulates their operation.
