Abstract The present Ordinance implements the Animal Protection Act of 23 September 2010 and the Animal Protection Ordinance of 14 December 2010. In particular, the Ordinance governs animal welfare in slaughterhouses according to article 2, paragraph 3, of the afore-mentioned Ordinance. The Ordinance contains, inter alia, provisions on: a) unloading, restraining and supervision of animals in slaughterhouses; requirements for anaesthesia systems and equipment; monitoring. The text consists of 25 articles divided into 8 Parts as follows: General provisions (I); Unloading, housing and supervision of animals in slaughter facilities (II); Requirements for anaesthesia systems and equipment (III); Driving and fixing before stunning (IV); Stunning (V); Bleeding of animals (VI); Supervisions (VII); Transitional and final provisions (VIII).
