Abstract The Act is composed of the following Sections: General provisions (sect. 1); Domestic animals (sect. 2); Livestock (sect. 3); Animals used for entertainment, films, sports and special purposes (sect. 4); Wild animals (sect. 6); Transport of animals (sect. 7); Operations of animals (sect. 8); Experimentation procedures on animals (sect. 9); Slaughter, killing and limitation of population of animals (sect. 10); Control of compliance with provisions on protection of animals (sect. 10a); Criminal provisions (sect. 11); Changes in valid provisions, transitional and final provisions (sect. 12). In particular, the Act establishes that an animal, as a live being, capable of suffering, is not a thing. Humans shall respect, protect and take care of animals.
