Abstract

These Regulations, made by the Minister under sections 21 and 22(f) of the Animal Diseases Act, lifts the general ban on importation of livestock, livestock products or by-products imposed by S.I No. 3 of 1997, but prohibits the importation of: (a) bovines; (b) bovine embryos, ova and semen; (c) fresh meat, meat products and other meat preparations from cattle; or (d) ruminant derived protein feeds, bone and meat meal, from a country which is not free from Bovine spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) or a country which does not comply with specified guidelines for the prevention of BSE. Countries which are free from BSE are listed in the Schedule to these Regulations.
