Abstract

This Act, consisting of 35 sections divided into seven Parts and completed by one Schedule, establishes that the Secretary of the Department may appoint a State Service officer or employee in the Department to be Registrar of Animal Brands. The Registrar shall keep, in the form prescribed in the regulations, a register to be called the "Register of Animal Brands and Tags", and compile a directory, to be called the "Directory of Animal Brands and Tags". The person in charge of any cattle or sheep shall, before each of the cattle or sheep attains the age of 6 months, brand it or cause it to be branded with a registered earmark of which the owner of the cattle or sheep is the proprietor. The Act sets out rights in respect of the registration of body-brands for cattle and sheep and tags for cattle. A certificate of registration shall be issued by the Registrar. The Act further provides for: the application of registered earmarks to cattle and sheep; enforcement of branding and tagging provisions of this Act; regulation of the movement of pigs; offences; etc.
