Abstract

This Amendment of the Fishery Management Plan for the Shrimp Fishery of the Gulf of Mexico addresses the issue of reducing the bycatch of juvenile red snapper in the shrimp trawl fishery. It also concerns bycatch of other species. The amendment introduces requirements concerning testing, certification and installation of Bycatch Reduction Devices (BRD's) on shrimp vessels. In addition it provides for measures regarding seasonal closures.
