Abstract

This Regulation of the Council of the Amhara Regional Government designates the Alatish Park in the Amhara State and provides with respect to its administration and boundaries. The main objective of establishing the Park is to protect the lowland ecosystem from dangers arising from human activities and to conserve the biodiversity resources it possesses through direct participation of the local inhabitants, and to create favorable conditions in which it is to be passed down to the coming generation as a heritage. The conservation measures shall provide an appropriate contribution to the (farming) community and the to overall economic development in a sustainable way. The Regional Parks Development and Protection Authority shall administer the Park and organize the office for the management of the Park. The duties of this office are defined. The Regulation also specifies activities that are prohibited in the Park (among which grazing, agriculture and hunting). The Authority may issue specific directives necessary for the implementation of this Regulation.
