This Law enters into force 30 days after its publication in the Official Gazette.
Abstract

This Law consists of 73 articles. Terms and definition are given in articles 1 and 2. The Ministry of Agriculture shall regulate, organize and develop the agriculture field in order to: increase the production of food and foodstuffs; use of natural and agricultural resources without damaging the environment; create of suitable conditions for investing in agricultural sectors and rural development; increase the production capacity; increase farmer’s incomes and improve their lifestyle; protect animals; improve the use of irrigation waters; face animal and plant diseases and epidemics; and carry out scientific research and desertification control (art. 3). Public health measures and sanitary plant measures are discussed in articles 5-8. The Ministry of Agriculture shall issue importation and exportation licences for agricultural products (art. 9). The Ministry in cooperation with other authorities shall contribute in defining the National Standardization and Metrology standards for agricultural products (art. 11). It shall be prohibited to produce seeds or trade them without registration (art. 18). Production and trade of fertilizers, plant growing regulators and pesticides shall be authorized by the Ministry (arts. 20 and 21)). Forests and grasses protection measures are provided for in articles 27-42. Article 43 deals with animal production, animal breeding, poultry, pesciculture, etc. Production of feed, feedstuffs and feed additives shall be authorized by the Ministry (art. 44). Production of veterinary medicines, biological preparations and growing up regulators for animals may be done once obtaining a previous licence from the Ministry (art. 45). No animals or animal products shall be allowed into Jordan without quarantine measures (art. 51). Slaughtering of poultry and animals destined for human consumption shall be done in authorized slaughtering-houses (art. 53). Article 53 regulates fishing. Apiculture regulations are given in article 56. Provisions on wildlife protection, hunting, season, licence and protected species are set out in article 57. The remaining articles contain general provisions and offences and penalties.
