Abstract

These Regulations provide for measures concerning prevention and fighting of diseases affecting animals, i.e. any vertebrate or invertebrate animal, except fish as defined in the Fisheries Act 1972. Regulation 2 defines "communicable animal diseases" for purposes of these Regulations. Regulation 3 concerns notification of diseases. Regulations 4 to 13 define duties and powers of Veterinary Officers. Regulations 14 to 37 regulate slaughter and disposal of infected animals and prescribe various measures for the fighting of specified diseases affecting cattle. No confinement yard, building or complex of buildings or land adjacent thereto shall be used as a zero grazing unit unless such confinement yard, building, or complex of buildings and land have been licensed by the Minister as a zero grazing unit (reg. 38). Regulation 39 lays down conditions for operation of a zero grazing unit. Regulations 40 to 44 concern rabies. Regulations 45 to 56 deal with quarantine, whereas regulations 57 to 78 regulate the importation of animals and in particular certification of health status. Regulation 79 concerns the importation of bees. Regulations 80 and 81 prescribe measures of enforcement and offences.
