This Agreement shall enter into force on the date of signature.
Abstract

Agreement on cooperation for forest fires and climate changes control within the tropical ecosystems. The Forestry Service of the Department of Agriculture of USA and the Brazilian Institution for Natural Renewable Resources (IBAMA) of the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment re-establish the cooperation program signed in March 1998 on forest fire control with the following objectives: to carry out a strategic evaluation of the impact of fire on continental scale and of fire's emissions on climate, ecosystems and human health; to reduce and control such impact in the tropical regions and establish a natural dimension of fire within protected areas; to develop sistems in order to protect tropical ecosystem, deforestation and forestry exploration; to increase technological capacity in controlling and managing natural resources.
