Abstract

This Act redefines the limits of the territorial sea of Finland. The outer limit of the territorial sea of Finland shall, with certain exceptions, extend to 12 nautical miles from the baselines. In the Gulf of Finland, the outer limit of the territorial sea shall at no place be closer to the midline than 3 nautical miles. The Annex to the Act sets out the base points of the outer limit of the inner territorial waters and the location of the outer limit of Finland's territorial sea. The baseline of the outer limit of the internal waters, referred to in section 4 (1) of the principal Act, the degrees of latitude and longitude of which are given in the Finnish National Coordinate System, are during the period 1995-2024 as indicated in section 1 of the Annex. The location of the outer limit of Finland's territorial sea is indicated by points that are connected either by the line of the shortest distance or by the circular arc defined by a given centre and radius. Those points are indicated in section 2 of the Annex.
