It also aims at ensuring that as few animals as possible are used for scientific or educational purposes and that the animals are inflicted with as little pain, suffering, distress or harm as possible. The Act applies 1) when live octopuses or vertebrates are used, bred or kept for scientific or educational purposes, and 2) when these animals are bred for the purpose of donating their organs or tissues for scientific or educational purposes.
