Abstract An independent Federal Nature Protection Office is established within the Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection and Nuclear Safety. The Office is responsible for: 1) administrative proceedings in the sphere of nature protection and care of landscape assigned to it by the Nature Protection Act, other Acts or the present Act; 2) the support of the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Protection and Nuclear Safety in all specialized and scientific questions concerning nature protection and care of landscape, as well as for international cooperation; 3) executing scientific tasks concerning nature protection and care of landscape; 4) implementing operations on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Environment, as fare as no other office is legally responsible.
