Abstract This Act lays down rules for the establishment of school wellness and nutrition standards, and for the prohibition of the sale of food items that promotes obesity and lead to the onset of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes. The Ministry of Education, in consultation with the Ministry of Health, shall provide information and technical assistance to all schools and school food authorities. Furthermore, the Ministry of Education shall promulgate regulations to establish science-based nutrition standards for food sold in schools, in consistency with the dietary guidelines as established by the Ministry of Health. Moreover, this Act sets forth provisions on the prohibition of the sale of certain beverages and food items known to contribute to obesity and the onset of non-communicable diseases, and on the prohibition of the use of public funds to acquire and distribute such prohibited beverages and food items.
