Abstract The purpose of this Act is to establish the principles and procedure for preventing and combating infections and infectious diseases in humans, including the principles and procedure for recognizing and monitoring the epidemiological situation as well as for undertaking anti-epidemic and preventive actions to neutralize sources of infection, cutting the pathways of the spread of infections and infectious diseases and immunizing susceptible persons. The present Act lays down also the tasks of public administration bodies in the field of preventing and combating infections and infectious diseases in humans and the rights and obligations of healthcare providers and persons residing in the territory of the Republic of Poland in the field of preventing and combating infections and infectious diseases in humans. This Act is composed of the following Sections: General provisions (Sec. 1); Sanitary and epidemiological testing (Sec. 2); Infections related to health services and other activities during which there is a violation of the continuity of human tissues (Sec. 3); Protective vaccinations (Sec. 4); Other actions to prevent infections and infectious diseases (Sec. 5); Procedure in case of suspected or diagnosed infection or infectious disease or in case of death due to infectious disease (Sec. 6); Public administration activities in the field of preventing and combating infections and infectious diseases (Sec. 7); Rules to be followed in case of an epidemic emergency and a state of epidemic (Sec. 8); Financial penalties (Sec. 8a); Penal provisions (Sec. 9); Amendments to applicable provisions, transitional and final provisions (Sec. 10).
