Abstract The Act lays down the rules for: (1) contained use of genetically modified microorganisms (GMM); (2) contained use of genetically modified organisms (GMO); (3) deliberate release of genetically modified organisms into the environment; (4) placing genetically modified products on the market; (5) cultivation of genetically modified plants. The present Act is composed of the following Sections: General provisions (sect. 1); Government administration body responsible for GMM and GMO matters (sect. 2); Contained use of GMM (sect. 3); Contained use of GMO (sect. 3); Deliberate release of GMO into the environment for purposes other than turnover (sect. 4); Introducing GMO products to turnover (sect. 5); Provisions on criminal and civil liability (sect. 7); Changes in valid provisions, transitional and final provisions (sect. 8). The Act does not apply to genetic modifications of human genome.
