Abstract

The Act applies to hunting in Greenland land and fishing territory with the purpose of ensuring proper use of catch resources. Commercial hunting is permitted to individuals having Greenlandic residence status, while non-commercial activities are limited to Danish nationals residing in Greenland and non-residents having had residence in the country for at least 2 years. The government shall implement policies on the regulation of fishing and hunting in regards to: conservation periods; prohibition or limitation of hunting activities; distribution of available catch in time and in areas; distribution of available catch relative to quotas on the base of vessel and fishing and hunting gear and methods; establishment of procedures for hunt species; layout and use of fishing gear, equipment and accessories, including bans on the use of particular vehicles, tools, gear types or/and fishing methods; conduct of fishing and hunting activities; processing, utilization and marketing of catch; size, age and sex of preys; and animal stocking and management. Those holding a license must provide information on fishing proceeds for biological assessment and management and local authorities may board hunting and fishing vessels in order to inspect their equipment and documentation. The government shall establish a Hunt Committee consisting of the Directorate of Fisheries, Hunting and Agriculture, as well as all stakeholders affiliated to hunting.
