Abstract The objective of the present Act is to ensure that animals are given a proper treatment, and are protected in the best possible way against pain, suffering, anxiety, permanent injury and significant other inconveniences. It covers the protection of all animals. The Act contains 27 Articles divided into the following Chapters: 1. Purpose and scope of the Act; 2. Keeping of animals; 3. Transport, release, capture, treatment and other protection of animals; 4. Breeding and biotechnology etc.; 5. Killing, surgical procedures and others; 6. Exhibition etc. of animals; 7. Animal trade, etc.; 8. Supervision; and 9. Penalties.
