Abstract This Law provides additional measures to eliminate the consequences of damage caused by the overpopulation of bark beetle populations as assistance to affected forest owners. The measures under this Act shall be applied in addition to the measures provided for by the Act governing forests and the regulations governing agricultural policy measures to prevent the spread and suppression of overpopulated insect populations and to rehabilitate damaged forests. The overpopulation of bark beetles under this law is a natural disaster. The provisions of this Act are also used to eliminate the consequences of damage to forests due to natural disasters, if more than 400,000 m3 of trees have to be cut or removed from the forest in a single calendar year and the estimated damage is equal to or greater than the threshold for natural the disaster is defined by the regulations governing the field of natural disasters, and this may result in an overpopulation of the bark beetle population. Natural disasters from the previous paragraph are avalanches, windbreaks, icefalls, floods, snow or landslides and other natural phenomena, if they cause damage or physiological weakening of trees in the forest.
