The Tourist Board shall monitor and promote the development of tourism as an important and sustainable pillar in Icelandic society, taking into account the limits of Icelandic nature and society, as well as work on coordination, analysis and research in tourism. Its tasks include: 1. Issuing permits; 2. Supervision of licensed activities, including safety programs; 3. Implementation of tourism policy, planning and support for regional development; 4. Collection, dissemination and processing of information, including statistical data and other information; 5. Analysis of the need for research which, among other things, is useful for government policy-making, in cooperation with the industry and research institutes in the field of tourism; 6. Safety issues, quality issues and consumer protection in tourism; 7.Custody and administration of the Tourism Destinations Development Fund; 8. Supervision of the activities of the Tourist Board; 9.
