Abstract

The purpose of this Act is to improve access to marine resources and promote their use in a sustainable manner that ensures long-term maximum yield for the Icelandic nation. It contains the following Chapters: I. General provisions; II. Hunting; III. Weighing of catches; IV. Implementation and sanctions; and V. Various provisions. It lays down specific rules covering the obligation to reduce and land all catches that come into the fishing gear of fishing vessels; the monitoring of catch composition of fishing vessels; the obligation to land and weigh catches in a domestic port; methods of weighing; inspections; the obligation to keep catch separated by species; sanctions and penalties; etc. The Directorate of Fisheries shall supervise the implementation of this Act.
