Abstract The present Act declares Thingvellir by Öxará and its vicinity as a protected national park and specifies its geographical boundaries. It lays down provisions for its management, permitted activities, and property rights in the area, and orders the preparation of a regulation on its protection and use. The objective of the protection of the National Park is to preserve its appearance as a national shrine and to maintain to the extent possible its original natural features.
