Abstract The present Act lays down new provisions as to the organization of the State Forestry Corps, which is charged with special police functions in connection with the protection of the agricultural and forest heritage as well as the protection of the environment, landscape and ecosystems. Article 2 of the Act lists out the tasks which are entrusted to the Corps. They include in particular: (a) surveillance, prevention and punishment of offences in the field of environmental protection; (b) control and certification as regards the international marketing and keeping of fauna and flora specimens protected under the CITES Convention; (c) control of the effective implementation of international treaties concerning environmental matters, particularly those regarding the protection of forests and biodiversity; (d) surveillance of protected nature areas.
