Abstract

The present Act lays down rules regarding whaling in Iceland's exclusive fishing zone (as determined by Regulation No. 299 of 15 July 1975), landing of whale catch, and processing of such catch. These activities can only be carried out subject to authorisation, which may only be granted to parties who meet the conditions to fish in Iceland's exclusive fishing zone. The Act contains 10 Articles and sets rules on, among other things, whaling by foreign vessels, fishing prohibitions, issues to be disciplined by regulation, supervision and inspection, responsibility of operators of whaling vessels, terms of employment of whalers, etc.
