Abstract

The Act provides for the slaughtering and destruction of the animals that are, or suspected to be, infected. It states the granting of a compensation (except in the case of tuberculosis and brucellosis) in favour of the animal breeders, equivalent to the 100 percent of the market value of the animals belonging to the same species and category. The amount of the compensation shall be increased in case of destruction of contaminated equipment, animal feeds, and other products which cannot be properly disinfected. No compensation will be made for the slaughtering of those animals already carrier of the disease after their entries. The Ministry of Health provides for the treatment of meat suspected to be contaminated. The Mayor shall establish by ordinance the slaughtering of the animals and shall regulate the payment of the compensation by separate provision. The compensation is owed partly by the National Health Fund and partly by the Regions. In case of slaughtering at the custom check points the compensation is entirely owed by the Government.
