Abstract The objective of this Act is to ensure that the public, businesses and the government have the necessary information about the weather and weather forecasts in Iceland. It applies to public weather services and special meteorological services. The Icelandic Meteorological Office shall operate a basic system by, among other things, operating the necessary number of meteorological observation stations in each part of the country and by obtaining data from foreign meteorological offices. It shall provide the basic services established in this Act, including monitoring and warnings or advice on imminent danger caused by weather or weather-related factors aimed at protecting life and property. The Icelandic Meteorological Office is obliged to issue warnings about imminent danger caused by weather and weather-related factors as appropriate and in accordance with international standards.
