Abstract

It is declared necessary to place operation and maintenance of waterworks system under the control and supervision of the State so as to ensure an uninterrupted and adequate supply and distribution of potable water for domestic and other purposes and the proper operation and maintenance of sewerage systems. For this purpose there is hereby created a government corporation to be known as the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System. The System shall have such branches and agencies as may be necessary for the proper conduct of its affairs. It may construct, maintain, and operate dams, reservoirs, conduits, aqueducts, tunnels, purification plants, water mains, pipes, fire hydrants, pumping stations, and other waterworks for the purpose of supplying water to the inhabitants of its territory, and construct and operate sewerage systems within its territory. The corporate powers and functions of the System shall be vested in and exercised by a Board of Trustees. The Corporation known as the National Waterworks and Sewerage Authority shall be abolished.
