Abstract

This Act aims at the improvement of the treatment of commercial marine stocks and encourages their sustainable utilization. The Act requires as a general rule that all catch obtained by fishing gear of a vessel must be retained on board and landed. The Act provides for inspection and monitoring of fishing activities and catches at landing and the monitoring of the capacity of the Icelandic fishing fleet. It also requires the master of a fishing vessel to keep the catch aboard the vessel separated according to species or to separate catch at landing.
