Country/Territory Hungary Document type Legislation Date 1997 (2022) Source FAO, FAOLEX Subject General Keyword Consumer protection Internal trade Liability/compensation Geographical area Eastern Europe, Europe, Europe and Central Asia, European Union Countries Abstract The National Assembly, in order to establish a regulatory framework which ensure the protection of consumers’ interests, in particular the interests related to safe goods and services, the protection of financial interests, appropriate information and education and to effective legal remedy, as well as interests related to associations representing consumers’ interests, and the development of the institutional structure required for the enforcement of these interests, adopts the Act on consumer protection. This Act covers those activities of undertakings that affect or may affect consumers. This Act does not cover the activities subject to the supervision of the Hungarian National Bank, of organisations or persons falling under the supervision of the Hungarian National Bank acting in its powers related to the supervision of the financial intermediary system. Consumer means natural persons acting for purposes outside their professional or economic activity, who purchase, order, receive or use goods or are the recipients of commercial communication or of offers related to good. Product means all marketable tangible assets, with the exception of money, securities and financial assets; and natural forces usable as things. Rules regarding the packaging, special liability, indication of prices, specific requirements concerning distribution and the provision of services among other provisions are all defined in this text.
