Abstract

The present Act introduces some amendments to the Seeds Act (BGBl. I p. 1673). In particular, article 30, paragraph 5 dealing with genetically modified plants, is reworded establishing that genetically modified plants may be used for the production of foodstuff or animal feed, only if an authorization has been released in compliance with article 4 of the Regulations (EC) No. 1829/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council on genetically modified food and feed. Genetically modified plants destined for the production of new foodstuff may only be authorized if they comply with the Regulation (EC) No. 258/97 of the European Parliament and of the Council concerning novel foods and novel food ingredients.
