Abstract

This Part of Title 50 provides for the guidance to the States how to apply for and receive grants from the Boating Infrastructure Grant program (BIG) Tier 1-State and Tier 2-National subprograms. The purpose of BIG is to construct, renovate, and maintain boating infrastructure facilities for transient recreational vessels at least 26 feet long. BIG receives Federal funding as a percentage of the annual revenues to the Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund (Trust Fund). The Trust Fund receives revenue from sources including: (I) excise taxes paid by manufacturers on sportfishing equipment and electric outboard motors; (II) fuel taxes attributable to motorboats and nonbusiness use of small-engine power equipment; and (III) import duties on fishing tackle, yachts, and pleasure craft.
