Abstract

This Subpart K of Part 622 of the Code of Federal Regulations provides rules for fishing in a coral area and for the taking of aquacultured of wild live rock. The purpose of Part 622 is to implement the Fisheries Management Plans prepared under the Magnuson-Stevens Act by Fishery Management Councils. The taking of coral for other than scientific purposes is prohibited. Requirements concern record-keeping, permits, use of gear and sale and purchase of live rock. The Regulations also concern adjustment of management measures by the Regional Administrator (RA). Appropriate Florida permits and endorsements are required for the following activities, without regard to whether they involve activities in the EEZ or Florida’s waters: (i) Landing in Florida fish or other marine organisms taken with an allowable chemical in a coral area. (ii) Landing allowable octocoral in Florida. (iii) Landing live rock in Florida.
