N°: 840 Rev State Party: Cuba Criteria: C(iv) The Committee inscribed the site on the World Heritage List on the basis of criterion (iv): Criterion (iv): The Viñales Valley is an outstanding karst landscape in which traditional methods of agriculture (notably tobacco growing) have survived unchanged for several centuries. The region also preserves a rich vernacular tradition in its architecture, its crafts, and its music. The Committee noted that during the recent UNESCO General Conference, the Valley of Viñales was awarded the Melina Mercouri Prize for Cultural Landscapes by the Director-General of UNESCO.
