Abstract

Decision directed to Secretariat

The Secretariat shall:

a) issue a Notification to the Parties, requesting Parties and organizations to provide information to the Secretariat on:

i) tree species where there are challenges in enforcement and key enforceability issues that would benefit from further guidance;

ii) traceability systems and related resources developed and used by Parties and by organizations for trade in CITES-listed tree species; and

iii) the usefulness of the information available on the traceability webpage on the CITES website to inform the development and implementation of traceability systems for tree species, where there are challenges for enforcement, including tracking of timber, unfinished products such as unfinished musical instrument parts and finished products;

b) make the traceability systems and related resources shared by Parties that could be useful to other Parties available on the CITES website, as appropriate; and

c) share the information provided in response to the Notification as well as recommendations concerning the need to develop guidance on traceability systems for trade in CITES-listed tree species, as appropriate, with the Standing Committee.
