Abstract

The World Heritage Committee,

  1. Having examined Documents WHC-15/39.COM/8B and WHC-15/39.COM/INF.8B1,
  2. Defers the examination of the nomination of The Naumburg Cathedral and the Landscape of the Rivers Saale and Unstrut – Territories of Power in the High Middle Ages, Germany, to the World Heritage List in order to allow the State Party to:
    1. further explore the relationship between the Naumburg Cathedral and the surrounding landscape;
    2. strengthen the representativeness of the territorial and urban organization for the period of the High Middle Ages and the significance of the related monuments;
    3. redefine the boundaries of the site taking into account the concerns put forward by ICOMOS so as to ensure adequate protection;
    4. submit – on the basis of the above-mentioned recommendations – a significantly revised nomination, which will require an expert mission to the site;
  3. Suggests that the State Party consider inviting ICOMOS to offer advice and guidance.
