Abstract

In this case, the defendant was a construction company which was being accused of not respecting the environmental legislation with regards to noise emission.

The different evidences provided by the prosecutors and the tests conducted during the investigation showed that the noise resulting from the construction work of the construction company was beyond the environmental standards as provided in the  Environmental Pollution Control (Control of Noise at Construction Sites) Regulations. Due to the fact, that the defendant had been repetitively condemned for those kinds of offences and that as Singapore becomes built up, noise pollution is a question of public health, the court decided to send a clear signal and condemned the defendant to an important fine.
